Small, But Beautifully Formed!

When Juliette Kinsey formed Kinsey & Co Solicitors, a small bespoke private client family law practice on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors, she did so firmly of the belief that small firms can still compete alongside bigger firms when it comes to providing clients with high levels of client care and case management performance – and sure enough within six months of opening the practice the Lexcel Assessors were in and the firm was given the thumbs up!

ANECDOTE speaks to Juliette Kinsey about her firms’ achievement and what made her decide that Lexcel Accreditation was the way forward:

"From the moment I decided to “go it alone” and become a sole practitioner I also decided that I was going to ensure that my practice should commence as it meant to go on and that high client care standards and internal management processes would be in place from day one. I therefore set up my practice with the Lexcel standard in mind. This approach made the implementation of the standard so much easier.

The Lexcel standard also provides a new business with an ideal structure from which to work and ensures that all bases are covered. Risk Management and Business Continuity issues are just as important to small businesses as they are to large – in some cases even more so.

I have had to discipline myself to attend to Lexcel requirements at times because there is so much to do when starting a new practice. Combining the stresses and strains of a new venture together with applying for a quality standard mark at the same time has on occasions felt like a bridge too far but it has definitely been worth it in the end.”

Lynda Partridge who assessed Kinsey & Co Solicitors in February 2008 against the Lexcel Standard commented “Having dealt with Lexcel before, Juliette knew what she was doing. She has set up some good basic systems which should serve the firm well and which could prove to be particularly valuable should she decide to expand the practice in the future.”

And as if that was not enough, since the practice was awarded the Lexcel Standard in 2008, Anecdote has learnt that Kinsey & Co Solicitors was shortlisted alongside five other firms for a national Law Society 2008 Excellence Award under the category of “The Lexcel Award for Excellence in Practice Standards”. The award went to a somewhat larger corporate firm in the city of London but even so Juliette Kinsey was delighted that her practice received such prestigious recognition.
